Join together with birders from around the world to be part of the biggest birding team during the Global Big Day! You can participate wherever you are, anywhere you choose, for as long as you prefer, anytime on Saturday May 10th. Then share the birds you find on eBird, to help us all better understand global bird species and populations during the peak of spring bird migration (fall migration in the Southern Hemisphere). Last year, Global Big Day created more data about birds on a single day than ever before when 1.3 million birders participated in 203 countries around the world!
Organized by the famed Cornell Lab of Ornithology, last year’s Global Big Day (GBD) was especially exciting and important because a record 7,847 different bird species were reported in a single day by birders in more countries than ever before! Another highlight was the milestone of more than 1 million people sharing their bird observations on eBird. This remarkable accomplishment underscores eBird’s impact on birding and the significance of our collective contributions to scientific research?. At the same time, birders shared 82,549 photographs and 4,821 audio recordings of bird songs and calls that are available in the Macaulay Library at Cornell.
Participating in the GBD is easy, and while you are welcome to report the birds you see and hear in your own yard and feeding station, and you can report from as many locations as you wish, but all birding must be limited to May 10th to be part of the Global Big Day totals. To learn more about how to participate on your own or in a group, refer to Global Big Day—10 May 2025 - eBird
This exciting spring birding event is more than just a bird count; it fosters community among birders and encourages our shared passion for birding. Participants of all ages ranging from seasoned birders to beginners contribute to the collective effort, with everyone making personal discoveries and sharing their experiences. During the Global Big Day, we celebrate our shared interest in birds and the joy birds add to our lives daily. It’s an opportunity to connect with nature, contribute to vital scientific research, and join together within the global community of birders.
During that Saturday, you can also monitor the incoming bird reports and see photographs from more than 200 countries in real-time at Global Big Day - eBird, where before May 10th, you can review information created during last year’s 10th annual Global Big Day.
