The October Big Day is an opportunity to unite with people around the world through our shared interest in birds. Saturday, October 12th, you can participate from anywhere; your favorite birding hotspots or even from home. Wherever you are, take 20 minutes or a couple hours – any amount of time you want to be birding – to join in this annual fall global birding day. During last year’s October Big Day, as many as 39,327 birders from 191 countries participated by identifying and counting the birds they encountered during their personal observation periods, which clearly demonstrates the power of birds to bring people together for a common goal.
Each year more and more birders join in this global celebration; how many people will contribute this year? Be a part of the global team and help set a new world record for the number of people participating. The importance in participating is reflected in the fact that the bird lists shared with eBird provide an excellent snapshot of what species are being found on each continent during the midst of fall migration – except, of course, if you are in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s a snapshot of spring migration!
To learn more about how you can participate in the October Big Day, simply refer to October Big Day—12 Oct 2024 - eBird and consider inviting family members, friends, or co-workers to join you birding during the October Birding Day – it’s a worldwide celebration of birds and birding!
