Introducing the New Zeiss SFL 50 Binoculars!

The New Zeiss SFL 8x50 Binocular.

The new Zeiss SFL 50 Binoculars combine high-quality optics with lightweight and compact design as an extension of the renowned SFL family of Zeiss Binoculars. These innovative new binoculars combine outstanding optical performance with a lightweight design that is ideal for birders. The SFL 50 is being launched with 3 magnifications: 8x50, 10x50 and, for the first time, a 12x50 model. The innovative optical design that uses thinner lens elements and optimized lens distances combines low weight with exceptional optical performance in the new models of Zeiss SFL 50 Binoculars.

“With the SFL 50, we have been able to combine the optical performance of 50mm binoculars in a design that is as compact and lightweight as a classic 42mm model,” said Nur Olmez, Category Manager for Nature Observation at Zeiss.

Bright & Light – The lightweight magnesium housing not only contributes to lighter weight but also ensures rugged durability and comfortable, fatigue-free observations for years to come. An exceptional amount of light passes through the glass lenses to the viewer as a result of the UHD concept and the large entrance and exit pupil distances. The large exit pupil of the SFL 50 ensures a bright, clear image that delivers 42 percent more light for impressive views of birds, which is especially helpful in low-light conditions.

“For birders in particular, it is essential to be able to see fine color nuances and details clearly – the SFL 50 makes exactly that possible,” said Olmez. The Zeiss T* multi-coating also maximizes brightness and color accuracy, which is complemented by phase-corrected roof prisms and lenses with high light transmission values to ensure maximum clarity.

Special extra-low dispersion lenses were used to minimize distracting color fringing, and the combination of Field Flattener Technology and aspherical lenses ensures consistent image sharpness right to the edge of the image. With a wide field of view and a close focusing distance of just 6 feet, birders can experience every detail up close.

Ergonomic & Robust – “We have developed the SFL 50 for comfortable and intuitive observations with a perfectly balanced design and precise focusing,” Olmez reported. The SmartFocus system allows fast and precise focusing with just 1½ turns from close focus to infinity, while the ergonomically positioned focus wheel ensures comfortable handling without overstretching your index finger.

The optimized weight shift to the eyepiece ensures a comfortable balance and enables long and relaxed observations of birds you find. Even in poor weather conditions, the SFL retains a clear view and the LotuTec lens coating ensures water will roll off the lenses. At the same time, the nitrogen filling prevents these binoculars from fogging up even when temperatures differ appreciably.

Olmez summarized the performance of the new Zeiss Binoculars: “With the SFL 50, we are setting new standards in birding – premium optical performance with particularly bright images in an exceptionally lightweight and compact design that is comparable to 42mm models.”
