Judged on originality, technical quality, and artistic merit, the winners of the 2024 Audubon Bird Photography Awards have been announced by the National Audubon Society. Celebrating its 15th year, this bird photography contest features stunning work from amateurs, professionals, and youth photographers that highlights the beauty of birds and the joy of photography through photographs and videos. Winning entries were selected from more than 2,300 entries that came from all 50 states, along with 9 provinces and 1 territory in Canada!
This year the judges awarded 9 prizes, including the new Birds in Landscapes Prize for the top image depicting the relationship between birds and their surroundings. This unique category encourages photographers to take a step back and look at the whole environment, then take a photograph that visually tells the story of place. Other categories include Amateur, Professional, Youth, Female Birds, Plants for Birds, Bird Videos, and the artistic Fisher Award.
Award winners and honorable mention photography will be featured in the Summer 2024 issue of Audubon magazine, the Audubon website, and other social media. The prizes are significant, with the Grand Prize photographer winning $5,000, while the Amateur prize is $2,500, as is the Professional prize, the Video prize, and the Plants for Birds prize. The Female Bird prize is $1,000, as is the Birds in Landscapes prize, and the Fisher Prize, while the Youth prize is 6 days at the Hog Island Audubon Camp for Teens in Maine.
