Trinidad & Tobago Cater to Birder and Non-Birder Alike

Birders sometimes plan their vacations around the best times to catch a glimpse of the most spectacular birds, and in such cases one or more members of the family or group aren't too happy with early wake-up calls to scout our feathered friends. Our destination clients - Montserrat, Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica - cater to both the birder and the non-birder, allowing them to travel together and create a memorable and experiential getaway they all can enjoy. All three of these tropical destinations feature lush mountains, unspoiled beaches, vibrant culture and a variety of bird species.

Here's a sample of what each destination offers birders who are on the lookout for rare species and their travel companions looking to discover culture and experiences beyond rolling green hills---
With rain forests, mangrove swamps, beaches, cloud forest and rivers, Costa Rica offers something for all types of travelers.

Birders have the opportunity to observe the almost 850 species of birds while the others take up surf lessons, hike a volcano, go zip lining or relax in natural hot springs. With more than 400 species, visitors to Trinidad & Tobago can discover different birds on each island.

From touring the Caroni Bird Sanctuary, home to the national bird Scarlet Ibis, catching a glimpse of the 18 different species of humming birds at Yerette in Trinidad to hiking through the Main Ridge Rainforest, oldest protected reserve in the hemisphere, the birder in the group will be captivated. Non-birders can veer off the trails and check out the 'down de islands' tour in Trinidad or the Cocoa Estate in Tobago.

Birders and non-birders alike can hop on a boat for a quick jaunt to Little Tobago off the shores of Tobago. Montserrat, the lush green and mountainous island of approximately 39 square miles, is home to over 34 species of birds, but also offers unbeatable views and a rich history.

While the birders head off to catch a glimpse of the Montserrat oriole, brown trembler, forest thrush, bridled quail-dove, green and purple-throated caribs, or antillean crested hummingbird, the others can check out the former capital city of Plymouth, known as a modern day Pompeii, or the mighty Soufrière Hills Volcano.
