SE Arizona Grasslands Subject of Outdoor Learning Institute

Attention all of those that enjoy spending time outdoors, anyone with an interest in natural history, and professionals and students in the field of ecology! Tucson Audubon is offering an opportunity to explore one of Earth's most threatened ecosystems - southeast Arizona's grasslands. Participants will discover the relationships between plants and animals that inhabit this ecosystem, learn more about how grasslands are managed, and take part in a national conservation project, Seeds of Success.

The institute will be held Oct. 3-6, 2013 at the Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch in Elgin, Ariz. Faculty members will present on topics including entomology, biogeography, native wildlife and botany. Participants will also have nighttime opportunities to explore the region's owls and black light for arthropods as they camp under the stars.

The cost of the workshop is $600 or $560 for Tucson Audubon members. Fees include expert instruction, all meals and camping. One unit of credit at the University of Arizona is available to participants. Scholarships are available.
