Learn about the nesting behavior and success of nesting Northern Pygmy Owls in northwest Montana during a 16-minute video produced by the Owl Research Institute. The video features a segment that shows young pygmy owls fledging from the cavity nest where they hatched and were raised during the 2023 nesting season. The information provided is based on 28 years of nesting field studies by Steve Hiro, an associate at ORI who is providing interesting insights to Northern Pygmy Owls, a species that few birders have had a chance to see or study. During this long-term field project, about 60 nest sites have been found and monitored, with new information gleaned each year.
