Owl Research Roundup

Among a variety of owl-related topics, you can learn about unusual Great Horned Owl nesting behavior that was documented by researchers at the Owl Research Institute in The Roost (photo by Paul Konrad).

If you are interested in owls (aren’t we all?), each year the Owl Research Institute (ORI) publishes The Roost, their annual newsletter that's filled with project updates, owl research information, and lots of impressive photos from talented bird photographers. In short, it's more like a magazine than a newsletter, and it also has information about the people conducting the field work with photographs from study sites in the Arctic where Snowy Owls are king, in mountain forests for Great Gray Owls, Northern Pygmy Owls, and others, and to grasslands for Short-eared Owls.

This year’s issue of The Roost provides a wealth of information about nesting owls, owl banding, and much more, and there is always information about a variety of owl species on the ORI website. In fact, the website is where you can access The Roost online, or download a PDF file of the annual publication. You can also sign up for ORI’s monthly e-mail updates, all at Owl Research Institute
