The ABA Rare Bird Alert’s Highlights

A rare First District Record Green-tailed Towhee thrilled birders at the US Botanic Garden in Washington, DC (photo by Menachem Goldstein).

Birders reported 18 Record sightings that included a First State Record Sharp-tailed Sandpiper in Kansas, a First District Record Green-tailed Towhee in Washington, DC; and a First State Record Townsend’s Solitaire in Kentucky. A Second State Record Taiga Bean Goose thrilled birders in northern California, while South Dakota and Kansas birders found a

Second State Record Brambling in each state. A Second State Record Sage Thrasher was documented in Tennessee, and a Third State Record Anna’s Hummingbird stopped at a nectar feeder in Columbus, Ohio – and there are many more records to report:

Fifth State Record Chestnut-collared Longspur – near Sand Bay, Wisconsin

Sixth State Record Black-throated Gray Warbler – Ketchikan, Alaska

Eighth Provincial Record Scarlet Tanager – Revelstoke, British Columbia

Eighth Provincial Record Cave Swallow – Canso, Nova Scotia

Summer Tanager – near Edmonton, Alberta

Vermilion Flycatcher – Presque Isle, Pennsylvania

Crested Caracara – Ringwood, New Jersey

Mountain Bluebird – Ipswich River Sanctuary, Massachusetts

Trumpeter Swan – Petersham, Massachusetts

Chestnut-collared Longspur – near Rives, Tennessee
