West Glacier, Mont. bird and wildlife photographer Tom Ulrich, author of "Birds of the Canadian Rockies," "Birds of the Northern Rockies," and contributor to Audubon, National Geographic, National Wildlife and other publications, died Feb. 10 of a rare form of leukemia.

The International Crane Foundation is deeply saddened to share the news that Dr. Rob Horwich has passed away. Rob led pioneering work for the ICF in crane behavior and captive rearing, and was responsible for developing the costume-rearing technique that has become the hallmark of our Whooping Crane reintroduction efforts.

The International Crane Foundation reports this week of the passing of Terry Kohler on Sept. 20, a Wisconsin conservationist who for years used his corporate jet to transport to Wisconsin hatching eggs of Trumpeter Swans from Alaska and of Whooping Crane eggs from northern Canada for hatching, rearing and releases into Wisconsin.

Luc Hoffmann, a Swiss ornithologist and naturalist with a passion for wetlands who helped create the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, BirdLife International and other conservation groups, died July 21 at his home in the Camargue wetlands in southeastern France, known for flamingos and other birds. He was 93.
