The “Birding Around the World” Series – Focus on Israel

A grand Steppe Eagle in flight as it migrates through Israel from Asia to Africa.

Israel is well known as one of the best places in the world to witness bird migration, with millions of birds numbering hundreds of species migrate through Israel during spring and fall, making it one of the world's busiest and most impressive flyways. Join members and interested people at ABA headquarters to hear about the amazing birds of Israel along with conservation, education, and tourism projects there. You can attend this insightful presentation next Monday, September 23, in Delaware City, Delaware.

Hosted by the American Birding Association (ABA), the presentation, “Israel – Where Migration is Defined,” will be delivered by Janathan Meyrav. In addition, a “Champions of the Flyway” competitor, Aidan Place – captain of the ABA-Leica Subadult Wheatears team – will describe birding in Israel and how his efforts have helped bird conservation efforts in a number of European countries.

Each March, teams of birders descend on the Negev Desert in southern Israel to participate in the Champions of the Flyway bird race – a big day competition to raise funds to assist conservation issues in the Old World. Looking ahead to the 2020 race, teams are again preparing to compete and active in raising funds, this time for Steppe Eagle conservation in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in central Asia.
